Features

Everything below is in the app today. It all works without an account and without a connection to the internet. The one exception is paying for the unlock, which goes through your phone’s store.

Your people and your circles
#

  • Add friends from your contacts: Pick people from your phone’s contacts, or type a name and skip the permission altogether. The app only keeps the people you pick.
  • Circles: Close and Extended are there from the start and can be renamed. Add circles of your own, up to eight in all, with ready-made starts such as Family, Work and Neighbours.
  • Free for 10 people, as many as you like with the unlock: The free version has every feature and holds 10 people, counted across all circles. The unlock removes the limit. Near the limit it tells you how many places are left.

A photo can stand in for a person’s initials. You choose it yourself, from your phone’s photo picker or from the picture saved with the contact. The app has no camera.

Goals and check-ins
#

Each friend has a goal for how you connect and how often: a message, a call or a meet-up, every week, every month, every few months or every year. A friend without a goal of their own uses the default of their circle.

  • Today shows who it has been a while for, who is due today and who is coming up, with a look ahead past the first week.
  • Check in when you have been in touch, with the kind of contact, the day and a note if you like. You can set the day back by up to a month.
  • A call goal is met by a call or a meet-up, and a meet-up goal only by a meet-up. A message goal is met by any contact.
  • Dates to remember such as birthdays, anniversaries and graduations show up in Today and in the daily nudge. A birthday can come from the contact or be typed in.
  • A note for each friend holds the things you want to remember.

Progress, kept light
#

  • A ring for each friend: A check-in that meets a goal moves the ring up. When a goal is missed the ring eases down, slowly. It never drops to zero in one go and nothing resets.
  • The week: See how many of this week’s goals you have met, and how the last eight weeks went.
  • Milestones: A first goal met, a full week, two in a row, a month in rhythm and being back in touch after a long gap. They are for keeping up, never for counting check-ins.

Guidance on how to connect next
#

After a few check-ins the app can suggest an idea for a friend, with the reason behind it and the check-ins it is based on. It might suggest a call when a birthday is near, a message when you have been out of touch for a while, or a meet-up when you have not met for months.

You decide what happens with it: accept it as a plan, choose “Not now”, stop suggesting calls for one friend, or turn ideas off for good.

Reminders and the home screen
#

  • A daily nudge, at the time and on the days you choose, at most one a day. It names who is due, and a friend who is past due is mentioned weekly, not daily. Reminders are created by your phone and nothing is sent to it from anywhere.
  • A call button, for friends added from your contacts whose goal is a call. It opens your phone’s own dialler with the number filled in. The app places no call, never reads your call history and asks you afterwards whether you talked.
  • A home screen widget, small or medium, that shows who to catch up with today. It opens the app and nothing on it checks anyone in.
  • A getting started card on Today, a short list for someone new that you can hide and bring back from Settings.

Privacy on your phone
#

  • Lock app: Open the app with your phone’s own Face ID, fingerprint or screen lock, so there is no separate PIN to forget. The app is locked every time you leave it, and the app switcher shows a blank card instead of your friends. On Android the phone does not allow screenshots of the app while the lock is on.
  • Hide names: With the lock on, reminders and the widget can leave names out. It is on by default when you turn the lock on, and you can switch it off on its own.
  • No account and no server: There is nothing to sign in to, and nothing is sent anywhere.

The lock keeps other people out of the app on your phone. It does not encrypt your data, and it does not protect a backup file.

Your information
#

  • Backup: make a backup file when you want one and restore from it on a new phone. It is readable text unless you add a passphrase, so keep it somewhere you trust. Photos are not part of it.
  • A passphrase for a backup: Turn it on where you export and the file is sealed, so that only the passphrase opens it. The app never keeps the passphrase, and a forgotten one cannot be recovered, so choose a few words you will remember.
  • Erase everything removes all people, goals, notes, photos and check-ins from the app.

The full version
#

The app is free for 10 people and has every feature. One payment of €4.99 unlocks as many people as you like, for good.

  • Paid once: No subscription and nothing renews. The purchase belongs to your App Store or Google Play account, and the app learns only that it was bought.
  • Restore purchase: On a new phone, or after reinstalling, one tap in Settings brings the unlock back.
  • Never in the way: The unlock is in Settings and appears when the free places are used up. There are no countdowns, no discounts and no reminders to buy.
  • Your data is never held back: Everyone you have added keeps working, and backup and restore are free.

Read how all of this is kept on your phone on the Privacy page.
